Young Adult Social Support (YASS)

The Ella Centre's Young Adult Social Support (YASS) program is a social group for young adults with moderate to high support needs who reside in the Inner West.
The program meets weekly, on Saturdays and Sundays, for either day or evening activities. Thursday night activities are also provided.

The program aims to provide opportunities for young people to form friendships and participate in a diverse range of social activities within the community. Community participation is one of the main focuses of the program, with activities including outings to Sydney venues, such as theatre, cinemas, putt-putt golf, bowling, swimming and dining at local restaurants, as well as centre based activities, such as art and craft, music and dance, and games with a bbq lunch.

Program activities are designed to suit a range of clients' needs. Group participants choose the activities and with staff support actively take part in running aspects of each session. Group sizes are kept to a minimum to allow for a high level of individual care for participants. Each person is offered at least 2 activities per month.

Monthly program details are mailed to participants who must then contact The Ella Centre to nominate their monthly preferences. This will be followed up with a confirmation letter and an invoice.

Depending on the type of activity, the cost ranges between $15-$25. Transport is provided to and from the program if required.

The staff on this program are qualified in supporting people with special needs.

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • be 18 years or over,
  • reside in the Inner West region
  • be independent with personal care and mobility
  • have moderate to high support needs
  • live in the community
